2022 Blackburn Hub redevelopment with new ‘Geo-wall’

November 8, 2022

During 2019 Stuart Haworth MD hatched a plan to develop the remaining 10,500m2 of land at Shadsworth.  Working with his son, Chris, a year was spent applying for planning, forming designs and appointing contractors for the biggest build project CSH Transport has yet undertaken.

Shadsworth Site Build 2022

One of the tens of concrete pours, a total of 10, 500m2 were poured.

Groundworks totalled 11,500 cubic metres of earth “muck shift” and 10,500m2 of hardened concrete to support 44t HGV vehicles and their turning habits. The whole concrete hardstanding is now larger than two full-size competition football pitches and should accommodate up to around 100 vehicles.

In these environmentally conscious times we have installed a system of underground water storage tanks and a turbine “water break” so that the rain waters do not cause any flash floods to the local system. This is retained by a giant “Geo-wall” – this new type of construction interlinks meshes with bags of earth and special seeding that grows stronger over time, as the plants’ root systems spread they reinforce the retention – it is one of the first “geo walls” of this scale in the locality.

The new yard also importantly has greatly reduced dust throughout the site and improved working conditions for all.
